Installing Kanzi

System requirements

Minimum system requirements for developing with Kanzi:

• Windows 7, Windows 8, limited support for Windows XP, and OS X with Parallels Desktop for Mac 8 or Bootcamp.
• 9 GB of free disk space
• 1 GB of RAM (2 GB recommended)
• Graphics card compatible with OpenGL 2.1 or later
• For developing application logic with Kanzi Engine, Visual Studio 2010 with at least service pack 1 or Visual Studio 2013 with the latest service pack.

To build and deploy Kanzi applications for Android, you need:

• Java Development Environment Kit 1.8 or newer (32-bit version)
• Python 2.7.x
• Python 3.x
• Scons 2.5.1
• Apache Ant 1.9.5 or newer
• Android SDK 2.3.3 or newer (Kanzi requires API level 10 or newer):
  • Android SDK Platform Tools
  • SDK Platform Android 2.3
  • SDK Platform Android 4.0.3
• Android NDK 10e

Installing Kanzi

To use Kanzi Studio on an Apple computer with a Retina display with Parallels Desktop for Mac 8 virtualization solution, see Configuring Parallels Desktop for Mac 8 for Kanzi Studio.

To install Kanzi:

1. Copy the Kanzi installer file to a local disk.
   You need administrator's rights on the computer where you are installing Kanzi.
2. Run the Kanzi installer and follow the onscreen instructions.
3. After Kanzi installation is complete, you are asked whether you want to install the required software to build and deploy Kanzi applications for Android.
   • If you do not have the Android build environment already set up, you can use the Kanzi Build Environment setup tool to install all the required packages. See Installing the Kanzi build environment for Android.
   • If you already set up all the tools required by the Android build environment and you use them, for example, with a previous version of Kanzi, set the Kanzi environmental variables for the version of Kanzi you just installed in the %ProgramData%/Rightware/<KanziVersion>/kanzi_environment_variables.bat to the correct paths.    • If you do not want to install software required to build and deploy Kanzi applications for Android at this point, you can install it later by running the Kanzi Build Environment tool. See Installing the Kanzi build environment for Android and Installing the Kanzi build environment.
4. Activate your Kanzi license:
   • If you have a Kanzi product key, see Using a product key to activate Kanzi Studio.
   • If you have a Kanzi license file, see Using a license file to activate Kanzi Studio.
